Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme will miss the rest of the season with a right elbow injury.

After rehabbing the injury for two weeks, Delhomme tried to throw Monday and experienced pain and discomfort. He then made the decision to shut things down and have season-ending surgery.

Delhomme originally strained the elbow on Sept. 23 against Atlanta. The veteran completed 55 of 86 passes this season for 626 yards and eight touchdowns with one interception before the injury.

David Carr replaced Delhomme in the past two games for the Panthers, and will continue to start.
