POL-SUDAN-MOROCCO-UN We don't want Sudan to turn into "another Iraq" in the region - al-Bashir
says
RABAT, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- Sudanese President Leiutent General Omar al-Bashir
underscored on Thursday his country's rejection of United Nations forces on
Sudanese soil, stating that "We don't want Sudan to turn into another Iraq."
At a stopover here returning from New York where he attended UN general
assembly meetings, al-Bashir told reporters that he rejected UN resolution
1706 which calls for sending international troops to Darfur. He based that
rejection on the notion that it was unacceptable for Sudan to be sujected
under a mandate of international forces reminiscent of colonial days.
Al-Bashir underlined that there were those in the media who gave wrong
impressions of the real situation in Darfur. (end)
