Our most prestigious award goes to the single greatest game of the year--the game that moved us, impressed us, and entertained us like none other. Since we play and enjoy hundreds of games each year, it isn't easy to settle on a winner--and especially not this year, in which there were so many excellent games that settling on just one absolute best of the best was a rather painstaking challenge. So, before we celebrate the winner of GameSpot's 2004 Game of the Year Award, we wish to sincerely congratulate the 10 finalists. These are the best games of the year, and considering the competition, their achievement is remarkable.
