A Twenty-eight Year LegacyFor many institutions, twenty-eight years might not seem long enough to establish a legacy. Yet Bastyr University's accomplishments after almost three decades represent a substantial gift of natural health education, research and health care for the greater community. A Multidisciplinary CurriculumRespected internationally for its science-based natural health programs, the university began in 1978 as a college with 31 students in a naturopathic medicine program. In fall 2001, 1150 were enrolled in the university, in a range of graduate and undergraduate programs including not only naturopathic medicine, but also acupuncture and Oriental medicine, applied behavioral science, nutrition, psychology, exercise science, herbal sciences and health. Research at Bastyr is world renowned. Bastyr Center for Natural Health is the largest natural health care facility in Washington. Increasing Choices in Health CareBastyr University is more than a wooded campus and collection of students and faculty studying natural medicine and health sciences. The university is a community of innovators and inquisitors, those in search of a better world and committed to scholarship, professionalism and life-long service and relationship. Its graduates have already transformed natural health care. Its ambassadors have effected change at the state and federal level, giving individuals choices of complementary health services not available in the United States two decades ago.
