• Hold on Medicare Claims at end of Sep 2006, MLN Matters Article 5047: The Deficit Reduction Act of 2006 (Section 5203) mandates that Medicare put a hold on payments for all claims (initial, adjustment, Medicare Secondary Payer [MSP]) submitted from Sept. 22 to Sept. 30, 2006—the last nine days of the federal fiscal year. During this time, no interest will be accrued or paid on the claims, and no late penalties will be paid as a result of the hold. All claims will be paid on Oct. 2, 2006. This is a one-time hold.
