Extended Computer Display System (EXCDS)
EXCDS, built on the Integrated Information Display System (IIDS) platform,
is an advanced flight data processing system that allows tower/terminal controllers
to manage electronic flight data online using mouse-based displays or touch-sensitive
display screens.
The
technology’s comprehensive integration of flight data significantly reduces
the need for voice communications among controllers and supplants the traditional
method of using paper strips to keep track of air traffic – still in use by
most of the world’s civil air navigation authorities.
EXCDS is now in operation in 11 NAV CANADA control towers, including Toronto’s
Lester B. Pearson International Airport in the tower and terminal
environments. It is also being used by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority
(GTAA) in their Apron Management Unit and De-icing facilities at Pearson.
EXCDS was most recently installed in a new and innovative ergonomic environment
in NAV CANADA's tower and terminal facilities in Montreal, Quebec.
Also, in a recent contract signed with UK NATS, our counterpart in the United
Kingdom, NAV CANADA will install EXCDS at three London-area airports, including
Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow.
