The Correlates of War (COW) Project is an ongoing effort to study and explore the conditions associated with the outbreak of war, as well as with the conditions surrounding militarized disputes. Begun in 1963 at the University of Michigan, the COW Project has produced over one hundred and fifty journal articles and book chapters as well as more than a dozen books. The COW Project is widely considered to have one of the top data collection programs in the field of political science, and for a substantial period of time has been one of the most frequently cited among individuals conducting quantitative research in comparative and international politics. This website is intended to both as a guide to published sources drawn primarily from the Correlates of War data sets as well as various non-COW datasets available through the internet.
