American Bank Center will lose its name at the end of September 2024.

For the past 20 years, American Bank has sponsored the center in downtown Corpus Christi.

According to a release, American Bank has decided to pursue new ways on connecting with the community and end its naming rights sponsorship at the end of its current contract after "careful consideration."

Mark Meyer, American Bank's market president for South Texas, said Corpus Christi is American Banks's headquarters and initially saw the naming rights as a great opportunity to support its hometown.

“This partnership served the city and our bank very well for many years and we’ve maintained a great relationship with the city," Meyer said. "It’s now time for American Bank to pursue new and different ways to support the Corpus Christi community and our clients.”

In 2004, American Bank originally assumed naming rights, including sponsorship of the arena, the Selena Auditorium and the convention center at the complex. The initial agreement was extended for another 10 years in 2014.

The current naming rights agreement will expire on Sept. 30, 2024.

Attempts to reach the American Bank Center Tuesday were unsuccessful.
