Working-age men are twice as likely to die if they catch the coronavirus but half as likely to be tested in Scotland, official figures show.

There have been 3,213 confirmed or suspected deaths linked to Covid-19 since the outbreak began in Scotland in March, according to the latest weekly update from the National Records of Scotland (NRS).

Men of all ages are 50 per cent more likely to die but 50 per cent less likely to be tested, according to government and NHS statisticians.

It came as Nicola Sturgeon said that Scotland was now seeing “sustained signs of hope” in the battle against coronavirus, after the death toll fell for the second week in a row.
