Could Lindsay Morgan be the new big screen Batgirl? Well, how about that – barely a day after news broke that Joss Whedon is in talks to write and direct ‘Batgirl,‘ we have our first rumour as to who may be in line to take the title role in the Warner Bros/DC movie. Speculation is rife that Lindsey Morgan of TV’s ‘The 100’ may have been cast as Batgirl/Barbara Gordon – although admittedly the evidence isn’t exactly watertight.
The Justice League cast (minus Gal Gadot) united at CinemaCon to show off some new footage. Director Zack Snyder came to the stage with Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) — as well as The Flash (Ezra Miller) providing a piggyback ride to Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
Wonder Woman was able to lasso up plenty of enthusiasm at CinemaCon on Wednesday with some new footage that included a look at the love story that develops between Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor (played by Chris Pine). Pine and director Patty Jenkins mentioned the love story as an important part of the film when they took the stage in Las Vegas Wednesday night. “It has a Casablanca feel which I don’t think we’ve seen in this universe before,” said Pine.
James Wan debuted the first look at the film, which will soon begin shooting.
As well as giving us our first proper look at the team in action (including a curiously Iron Man-esque Cyborg, played by Ray Fisher), this trailer also gives us our first brief glimpses of some other new characters, including Amber Heard as Mera, and JK Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. There’s also a quick glimpse of Amy Adams as Lois Lane – although, as necessitated by the ending of ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ one rather notable absentee is Henry Cavill as Superman.

It’s little secret that the DC Extended Universe, the Warner Bros-owned comic company’s attempt at a rival to the mighty Marvel Cinematic Universe, is struggling. Whilst its three existing movies – 2013’s ‘Man of Steel,’ and 2016’s ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Suicide Squad’ – all performed well at the box office, none of them have won over audiences or critics the way Marvel have. This means that, at present, the only DC movie lined up for release in 2018 is ‘Aquaman.’ However, it has emerged that the studio are contemplating filling the gap left by ‘The Batman’ by accelerating the development process on one of their planned films.
This November’s ‘Justice League’ will see the introduction of a new Commissioner Jim Gordon to the DC Extended Universe – but it sounds like it will be a pretty short introduction. JK Simmons, who will make his debut as the time-honoured ally of Batman in the superhero ensemble piece from ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘Batman V Superman’ director Zack Snyder, has revealed in a new interview that he won’t be in the film much. Reintroduction might be the better word, given that Commissioner Gordon has been a staple of the ‘Batman’ movies, played by the late Pat Hingle in the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher movies, and most recently by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy.
The Warner Bros. film will now open Dec. 21, 2018, the date that was once presumed to belong to 'Avatar 2.'
Henry Cavill has taken to Instagram to not just show that he’s back in training as Superman, but to also tease his appearance in ‘Green Lantern Corps’. The English actor has slowly been recovering from knee surgery.
It’s almost a year since she silenced her critics by being almost certainly the best thing about ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ – and now, we’ve got less than three months before Gal Gadot takes centre stage in her own movie as ‘Wonder Woman.’
Uh-oh. Things really aren’t looking good for ‘The Batman.’
Mel Gibson is mulling joining the DC Extended Universe … as a director. Warner Bros. is courting the actor-director to helm Suicide Squad 2 and the sides are early in talks, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Sources say that Gibson is familiarizing himself with the material.
It appears Warner Bros/DC have decided who will replace Ben Affleck in the director’s chair on ‘The Batman’ – and it’s Matt Reeves. Variety report that Reeves – director of ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ and its upcoming sequel ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ – has ‘committed’ to take the helm on the troubled but highly anticipated DCEU movie.
‘The Girl on the Train’s breakout star Haley Bennett has been dropping some big hints that she may be about to step into the lethal heels of Batman anti-hero Catwoman. The speculation comes a few weeks after The Hollywood Reporter broke news that ‘Suicide Squad’ director David Ayer was to return to the DC Extended Universe to direct a film based on the ‘Gotham City Sirens’ series of comics.
Nicole Kidman already looks set to star in Warner Bros/DC’s ‘Aquaman’ as the mother of Jason Momoa’s title character – and now it looks like we also know who his father will be. Yes, not content with having Australia’s most famous actress as his mum (an Atlantean), New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison is now in talks to play Aquaman’s dad (a human), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Nicole Kidman may be joining the DC Cinematic Universe. The actress, who is in the Oscar mix this awards season for her work in Lion, is in early talks to play Aquaman’s mother in Aquaman, the big-screen take of the underwater-breathing comic book superhero. Jason Momoa is playing the title character in the Warner Bros/DC Entertainment production that James Wan is directing.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who starred in Netflix’s Baz Luhrmann show The Get Down, is in early talks to put on his wetsuit for Warner Bros. Aquaman movie. The actor has nabbed the part of Black Manta, one of the DC Comics villains. Director James Wan and the studio have been meeting with numerous actors for the part for the past two weeks, settling on Abdul-Mateen over the weekend.
Kathryn Bigelow (left) and David Fincher (right) either side of a picture of Ben Affleck as Batman in this year’s ‘Justice League’. Ben Affleck will no longer direct himself in the next solo Batman film, after deciding to step down following discussions with Warner Bros. He will however, still produce the film. Called ‘The Batman’, the film will be the first standalone Batman story in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) after Affleck’s version of the character debuted in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ last year and appeared briefly in ‘Suicide Squad’.
Recent years have seen Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson go from being a wrestler-turned-actor managing a so-so leading man career, to becoming one of the most bankable stars in the business – and the go-to guy for any sequel in need of a boost. Will Johnson work that same ‘Franchise Viagra’ effect on the DC Extended Universe? It has been known for some time that Johnson will be joining the DC franchise as Black Adam, shady anti-hero of ‘Shazam!’ – a film provisionally lined up for a 2019 release, to which Johnson has been basically the only name attached for several years, with still no word of who will direct or co-star.
Sometimes movie cameos are just obvious. Think Bruce Springsteen in ‘High Fidelity’, Leonard Nimoy in ‘Star Trek’, Johnny Depp in ‘21 Jump Street’, and Keith Richards in ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End’.
Given how ubiquitous Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson seems to be on the Hollywood stage of late, it’s easy to forget that he’s also set to become part of the DC Extended Universe. Instead, Johnson will portray Black Adam, a dark anti-hero with powers equivalent to Shazam – and given these powers include flight, super-strength and super-speed, he can also give Superman a run for his money. As such, Johnson has long hinted that he may well go toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel at some point – and now, both men have reminded fans that this is still on the cards.
Ben Affleck has confirmed that ‘The Batman’ will begin production in just a few months time. Affleck, who is starring, directing, and has been working on the script for months to make it just right, confirmed to Variety that everything is still going according to plan with ‘The Batman’, which was previously touted for a spring, 2017, start date. “We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together,” Ben Affleck admitted.
If you’re a Harley Quinn fan, do we have news for you, puddin’. Not only is she coming back to the big screen, but it looks like she’s bringing Catwoman and Poison Ivy with her.
DC Comics superteam the ‘Justice League’ will unite on screen for the first time next November – however, it seems we’ll be waiting longer than expected for their second mission. It had been thought that director Zack Snyder would go directly into ‘Justice League 2’ after completing work on the upcoming DC Extended Universe team-up movie, but there’s been a change of plan.
