Anex is a program of Penington Institute, a not-for-profit organisation advancing health and community safety by connecting substance use research to practical action.
Anex is a leader in strengthening policy and practice in relation to needle and syringe programs (NSPs) and other strategies to improve the health and well-being of those who use illicit drugs. These programs are central to efforts for reducing blood borne viruses such as HIV and hepatitis C.
Our activities include:
- delivering training, consultation, support and networking to the NSP workforce and other services supporting people with problematic drug use
- publishing the Anex Bulletin to promote evidence based practice
- convening the NSP Policy and Practice Forum
- providing early warning to drug policy decision makers of changing drug use trends gleaned from its close links to front-line service providers
