donateMaking a charitable gift to House of Hope is an important and personal decision. The satisfaction of giving comes from knowing that you are investing in the lives of individuals who are survivors of Domestic and Sexual violence in our local community.
House of Hope is a program to assist survivors of domestic and sexual violence in establishing abuse free lives and surviving horrific incidences of abuse. We operate a 15 bed emergency facility and 4 transitional units that offer a safe, secure and supportive environment. House of Hope provides hot meals, clothing and personal hygiene products. Additionally, we provide program services that help survivors. These include case management, support groups, educational classes, court advocacy and outreach services (click here to learn more about our services).

Shelter Tax Credits- Remember…Missouri taxpayers who contribute $100 or more to House of Hope may be eligible for a 50% tax credit toward their state taxes.

  • To make giving more beneficial, we have available a tax credit program for donors.  The sponsoring entity is the Missouri Department of Social Services, and the program name is the Domestic Violence Shelter Tax Credit Program.  A 50% tax credit is available to all Missouri taxpayers that make an eligible contribution of at least $100 to Polk County House of Hope, a qualified shelter through this program.
  • Individuals, corporations, partnerships, S-corporations, express companies, and LLC’s are all eligible donors.  Eligible contributions include cash, stocks and bonds, other marketable securities, buildings and land.
  • Donors receive a credit in the amount of 50% of the value of their donation when they file their Missouri income tax return.  For example, if an eligible donor gives a $1,000 gift to Polk County House of Hope, he or she can take a tax credit of $500 as a direct reduction of his or her total tax liability to the state.  This tax credit is in addition to the federal deduction for the donation.  After making the donation, the donor completes a brief application and forwards it along with proof of the donation (cancelled check) to House of Hope, who also signs the application and forwards the application materials to the Missouri Department of Social Services.  The donor may carry tax credits forward for four successive years.

Ways to Donate

  •     Gifts of Cash: The out-of-pocket costs can be less than the dollar amount of the gift because of allowable federal tax deductions and Missouri Shelter Tax Credits.
  •     Endowment: A hardworking, perpetual resource because the principal remains intact, and investment income is used to provide financial support to Harmony House.
  •     Matching Gifts: Check to see if your employer will match your gift.
  •     Gifts of Personal Property: Works of art, books, vehicles, antiques, etc. are considered personal property. Your deduction depends on the appraised value and how the gift will be used by Harmony House.
  •     Gifts of Real Property: You can give private, commercial or agricultural property. If your property has decreased in value, you might consider selling it and contributing the proceeds to receive both capital loss and charitable gift deductions.
  •     Planned Giving: A planned gift is a set of ways a donor can leave money or assets to a nonprofit upon his/her death, or a way of investing money so that the donor receives benefits during his/her lifetime and then bequeaths the remaining funds to Harmony House.
  •     Planned Gifts of Securities: Stocks, bonds, mutual funds and IRAs, etc. may provide an excellent way to make a major gift. A gift of appreciated property (assets now worth more than you paid for them) may enable you the opportunity to deduct the fair market value without the need to pay capital gains taxes if transferred to Harmony House before the sale.
  •     Planned Gifts of Trusts: There are many ways to give including charitable remainder trusts, deferred gift annuities, charitable lead trusts, etc. Some gifts return income or other financial benefits to you in return for your contribution.
  •     Planned Gift of Insurance: Name Harmony House as owner or beneficiary on new or no longer needed policies.
  •     Planned Gift of Bequests: As part of your will, bequeath a specific dollar amount or a portion of what remains after your obligations to others are fulfilled.
  •     For planned giving, major gifts, or financial donation questions, feel free to contact our Executive Director, Danielle Conti at 417-777-3229
