in St. Catharines and went on to success at Provincial, National and/or
International levels of competition.
- Sports Hall of Fame started as a small exhibit at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre.
- Founding committee included Jack Gatecliffe, Joe McCaffrey, Ellard O'Brien, Archie Katzman and Bill Stevenson.
- Committee has grown to 10 members and includes sports enthusiasts, historians and hall of fame inductees from all walks of life. The committee meets quarterly.
- In 2012 the hall of fame expanded to include a sports wall of fame at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre.
- The hall of fame has inducted 153 members.
- Up to five new members are inducted each year during the annual Sports Celebrity Dinner in May.
- The hall of fame and wall of fame found a new, permanent home at the Meridian Centre when it opened in October 2014.
- Located on concourse level of the Meridian Centre, the hall of fame features an exhibition space showcasing a selection of sports artifacts and memorabilia.
- The hall of fame is available for viewing during public events at the Meridian Centre.
- The opening exhibition focuses on the city's hockey history and features memorabilia relating to some of St. Catharines' hockey greats, including Gerry Cheevers, Stan Mikita and Brian Bellows.
