Exhibits
Exhibits in public spaces provide the community an opportunity to experience original art, historic photos, or cultural treasures that reflect St. Catharines' stories, creative self-expression, experiences, and perspectives.
Each year, exhibits are displayed on a rotating basis on the 3rd floor of City Hall, in the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre and Centennial Gardens. These exhibits are co-ordinated by the City's Cultural Services office with support from the Public Art Advisory Committee.

May 1 to November 4, 2017 As we celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary of confederation, a swelling wave of souvenirs are set to break on the Canadian consciousness. Often presented as works of art, the souvenir is one of the boldest emblems of kitsch: mass-produced, low-brow and often cheesy, the classic souvenir merges our understanding of history and place with personal sentimentality. Nine local artists unpack the souvenir through art. Or is it kitsch? Participating Artists: Kim Bell, Irma Bull, Alexa Fraser, Wes Frost, Ariadni Harper, Jenn Judson, Katie Mazi, Sandy Middleton, and Joanne Ring. |

The FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre is the home of spectacular performances and presentations, in Downtown. In addition to four theatre spaces, the centre's open spaces are used to exhibit artwork for visitors to discover. Current Exhibit in the Film House Gallery
Spring 2017 to Spring 2018 Originally displayed at the St. Catharines Museum, Leading the Way profiles some of the remarkable women who have called St. Catharines home over the last 150 years and highlights the important contributions women have made in our City's history. When Centennial Gardens was unveiled in 1967 it included commemorative plaques representing the 12 provinces and territories of the time. These plaques were installed on a concrete wall that surrounds the Doug Cranmer Totem Pole. The original plaques disappeared years ago but distinct blank rectangles remain. These spaces now provide an opportunity for public art exhibits. Current Exhibit |
