On June 8, 2015, under the recommendation of the Ad Hoc Budget Review Committee, City Council approved the establishment of a Budget Standing Committee. This committee is structured as three year pilot project to allow the current Council to review its' composition, term of appointment and committee format before their term is over.
The Budget Standing Committee will work on behalf of City Council to address high level strategic budget and policy decisions. The Committee will provide financial guidance and oversight from a broad perspective to assist and improve upon the City's budget process, as well as short, medium and long-term financial planning.
The Standing Budget Committee is comprised of six (6) members of Council including the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and four councillors. Five staff members including the Chief Administrative Officer, City Treasurer and the Director of Finance also coordinate with the Committee.
Councillor Mat Siscoe was selected on July 7, 2015 to serve as Chair of the Standing Budget Committee for its duration.
Administrative support to the Standing Budget Committee shall be provided by the Clerk's Office. The Committee Secretary or the Councillor & Committee Coordinator will prepare and publish all agendas and minutes. Reports and recommendations from the Committee will come from the Executive Research Assistant under direction of the City Treasurer.
