The City of St. Catharines is known as The Garden City. As such, the Corporation of the City of St. Catharines prides itself on maintaining a clean, green city, with opportunities for citizens to reduce, reuse and recycle.
The Niagara Region oversees recycling and waste collection in St. Catharines, as well as Niagara's 11 other lower-tier municipalities. The Niagara Region handles the following services:
St. Catharines by-law enforcement is responsible for the investigation and enforcement of municipal by-laws related to waste accumulation upon any premises in St. Catharines.
All questions regarding recycling and waste should be directed to the Niagara Region.
People in public spaces, such as streets, parks, baseball diamonds and sports arenas, generate a significant amount of waste.
The City of St. Catharines is involved in a public space recycling pilot program to reduce the amount of garbage bound for landfill and help reach our 65 per cent waste diversion target. Recycling bins are now located throughout the downtown, including receptacles outside City Hall and Market Square.
