Aquatic Fitness Schedule

The St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre offers a variety of Aquatic Fitness Classes to meet everyone's needs and abilities.

 

 

Spring Schedule - Mar. 28 - June 15, 2016

 

All Activities are drop-in programs.

Aquafit - Lane Pool

  • Monday to Friday: 8 - 9 a.m.
  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: 8 - 9 a.m.
  • Sunday: 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. - Women Only**

**Speciality Program. Fitness Passes or Clip Cards cannot be used for this program.

Deep Water Aquafit - Lane Pool

  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 9 - 10 a.m.

Forever Fit - Lane Pool

  • Monday to Saturday: 11 a.m. - noon.
  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 2 - 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday: 1 - 2 p.m.

Hip, Knee and Back - Leisure Pool

  • Tuesday and Thursday: 10 - 11 a.m.

Strong and Steady - Leisure Pool

  • Monday and Wednesday: 3 - 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday: 2 - 3 p.m.

Therapeutic Aquatics - Leisure Pool

  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 10 - 11 a.m.
  • Monday to Thursday: noon - 1 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 3 - 4 p.m.
  • Monday and Wednesday: 7 - 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: noon - 1 p.m.

Use Your Noodle - Leisure Pool

 Aquatic Fitness Program Descriptions

 

All programs listed may not be offered during the summer session.

Aquafit

This program takes place in the shallow and deep areas of the lane pool. A fun exercise program combining the benefits of our shallow and deep aquafit. Emphasis is on cardiovascular fitness, conditioning and toning.

Deep Water Aquafit

Must be able to swim 25 metres and be comfortable in deep water. Classes are held in deep water in the lane pool eliminating any impact on your joints, using the floatation belts for added support. Deep water classes are ideal for developing core strength and balance. Emphasis is on cardiovascular fitness, conditioning and toning.

Forever Fit

Choose to participate in the Leisure Pool or the Lane Pool. This instructor led program will feature fitness activities to enhance your quality of life. Range of motion, core strength, cardio, balance, flexibility and overall muscle strength exercises will be featured. This program is in the Leisure Pool will be modified to the suit the individual needs of the participants.

Hip, Knee and Back

In this class for adults who are coping with hip and knee joint degeneration, the instructor will focus on range of motion for the joints, muscle conditioning, balance and postural training. Recommended for pre and post-operative conditions.

Strong and Steady

One in three people over the age of 65 will fall at least once this year. Studies have shown that physically strong individuals have better balance and are less likely to fall. Improving strength, balance and flexibility allows recovery from a fall and builds confidence. Warm water is an ideal, safe environment to train posture, agility, strength and coordination.

Therapeutic Aquatics

 In this class in the Leisure Pool, exercises will focus on improving daily functioning and mobility. Improve your posture, stretch your muscles, develop muscular strength and work your cardiovascular system through a variety of exercises.

Use Your Noodle

Enjoy the warm water in the Leisure Pool as you get a gentle full body workout with pool noodles. Improve your posture, stretch your muscles, develop muscular strength and work your cardiovascular system through a variety of exercises while utilizing pool noodles.

Admission Requirements

 
  • Clip cards and passes may be purchased at the St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre and the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre.

  • Fitness passes may be used for any Aquatic Fitness program, Aquatic Activity Swims and where space is available in a registered Fitness program.

  • All passes and clip cards must be submitted before entry to the pool is permitted.

  • Lost swim pass replacement fee $6 (available with proof of payment). Lost clip cards are not replaced.

  • Programs may end 5 minutes early to accommodate a transition to the next program.

Totally Butts & Guts (18 years & over)

This program contains a cardio component and focus on toning and strengthening your back, hip and abdominal muscles. You need to be comfortable in deep water.

Aquafit Turbo Boot Camp (18 years & over)

Are you ready for the challenge of Boot Camp? This high intensity workout will put you through the paces of a fun and interactive water workout. This progressive program will all participants to set their own personal fitness goals while working to achieve their own personal bests. You need to be comfortable in deep water.

Body for Birth and Beyond (18 years & over)

In this class for adults water exercise will provide a comfortable, enjoyable from of physical activity that benefits the mother to be and promotes healthy development for the unborn child. This program is a medium intensity workout designed for moms and moms to be who wish to continue to exercise and maintain their fitness level. Suitable for mothers during pregnancy and after giving birth. This program takes place in the lane pool.

Wittle Water Works (18 years & over)

In this program for adults and children (6 months to 24 months), participants will enjoy participating in an Aquafit class with your little one right beside you! The water work out encourages weight loss, toning, and revitalizing your energy level. The adult participates in a 45 minute aquafit class then the children will enjoy a 15 minute session where material from the Red Cross Swim Pre- School program is taught. Children must have good control of their head and neck and be able to sit up with little or no assistance. Floatation seats are provided for the children and the adult is within an arm's reach during all exercises. This class is held in the lane pool.

Swim Adult Endurance (18 years & over)

In this class for adults participants will develop one or more swimming strokes, working toward proficiency and increased endurance. Participants will work with their Water Safety Instructor to choose the strokes and set goals and priorities. This course is ideal for adults looking to develop their strokes to train for a triathlon or to build their fitness levels.

Masters (18 years & over)

In this program for adults who want to train and/or those who wish to compete, a qualified coach will creatively develop a program that encompasses enjoyment, fitness, friendship, personal challenges and a planned workout. Sound coaching will provide instruction for stroke development, fitness progression and training plans. You must register for the Masters program at the St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre.

Private and Semi Private Fitness Training

This customized class for adults 18 years of age and over will provide an individualized workout program utilizing the weightlessness of water. Our qualified aquatic trainers can help reach your hydrotherapy, fitness relate exercise or sport specific training goals. Training sessions are suitable for people requiring hydrotherapy as per doctor's instructions. An aquatics fitness expert will confirm dates and times of your workouts.
