Hospitals & Health

St. Catharines is home to a large community hospital, a complex continuing care and rehabilitation centre, and an inpatient facility. There are also several long-term care facilities and medical clinics to help meet residents' health-care needs.

Healthcare in St. Catharines

A state-of-the-art hospital and regional cancer treatment centre opened in 2013. The new hospital - the St. Catharines Site - replaces the St. Catharines General Site and Ontario Street Site. In addition to the Walker Family Cancer Centre, the new hospital has regional cardiac catheterization services and specialized mental health inpatient services.

The Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre provides complex continuing care and outpatient rehabilitation services to residents of St. Catharines and the Niagara Region.

In 2008, the City of St. Catharines formed a partnership with McMaster University to establish the McMaster Niagara Family Health Centre. The centre is a clinical teaching unit to educate future doctors while helping meet the needs of residents without a family doctor.

Know where to go

Walk-in clinics, doctor's office, ER, urgent care... it can be tough to know the right place to go for medical treatment. Visit the Niagara Health System's website for information on healthcare options available in to residents.
