School is back in session, and that means I get the opportunity to share a little about weather and how we forecast it - AND how we measure it - with some elementary and middle school kids here in San Diego.

Wednesday's trip under partly cloudy skies and cooler weather was to Midland Elementary School in Poway to talk with Ms. Hafer's First Graders. After such a wet weekend, and with more rain on the way, you can imagine the questions that will be fired from first graders on such a cool Wednesday morning!

What a pleasant morning to take the MicroClimate Weather Van out to La Mesa Wednesday.
What a pleasant morning to take the MicroClimate Weather Van out to La Mesa Wednesday; there was supposed to be some winds (they didn't really develop too much), but that was ok. With the electronic sign (read: fin) on the top of this vehicle, it can be tough to handle had those offshore winds really gotten going.

I've been doing these school visits now for more than ten years in San Diego county, and I've been to every corner of the county (Palomar, Boulevard, Camp Pendleton, Otay Mesa, etc.) - but one school that keeps asking me to come back each year is located right in Chula Vista. And every year they have a great group of students!

After all the rain in December, we were overdue for some nice weather - and a stretch of it - and that's exactly what we had when I went to visit North Escondido Elementary.

Isn't the weather pretty boring here? Doesn't it stay the same all the time? San Diego has really two times during the year that, typically, we don't get a lot of weather. There's about a month around April, and another month around October. The rest of the year, however, it's anything BUT boring.
