Trap Neuter Return Program

Greenhill now offers free spay and neuter surgeries for all feral, stray and free-roaming cats in Lane County.

Appointments are required and are available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Each cat must be brought in a trap*, not a kennel, carrier, box, or anything other than a trap. One cat per trap.

Call to schedule an appointment BEFORE trapping a cat.

For more information, and to make an appointment, call (541) 689-1503 x140

Current estimates put the number of feral cats in Lane County at 15,000-20,000. In 2006 Greenhill Humane Society implemented the Trap Neuter Return (TNR) program. Gaining popularity nationwide in animal welfare and shelter circles, TNR programs have shown to be the most effective, humane solution to an epidemic of feral cat colony breeding. TNR is a method of humanely trapping feral cats, sterilizing them, and returning them to their colonies to live out their lives. TNR can also involve a colony caretaker who provides food, adequate shelter, and monitors the cats' health.

Watch a KEZI News story of one person caring for a colony of feral cats and working to keep their numbers in check by participating in Greenhill's TNR program here.

How you can help

Volunteer  We are always looking for volunteers to assist with trapping.  To volunteer as a feral cat trapper and register for free training, contact our TNR Program Director at (541) 689-1503 x140.

Donate  The free program would not be possible without the support of donors. Please remit checks to Greenhill Humane Society, noting "TNR Program" on the memo line.

Distribute the printable TNR Information Brochure and TNR flyer in areas that contain feral cat colonies.

*Traps may be borrowed from Greenhill with a refundable $100 deposit. Trap availablility is limited. Call (541) 689-1503 to find out if traps are available.
