Personal papers relating to Mitchell's WWII service. Includes a diary kept by Mitchell from his departure from New York in 1943 until his leaving the 61st Troop Carrier Group at Abbeville, France two years later. Also includes entries made at Casablanca, Sicily and Anzio while he was commanding the 61st which dropped many of the men and much of the equipment into these invasion locations.
