Eugenie Bouchard has admitted she is being cautious in her comeback to the tour after suffering concussion in a fall at the US Open last year.

Bouchard has won two matches at the WTA Shenzhen Open this week as she makes her return to competition for the first time in three months.

The Canadian 21-year-old withdrew from the US Open in September after slipping in the locker room and then retired during a match in Beijing a month later with dizziness.

But all is well in China this week as Bouchard prepares for a first quarter-final since last year's Australian Open when she takes on Hungarian Timea Babos.

Bouchard told ESPN: 'I just take it day by day, kind of week by week now. It's my comeback, so I'm just taking it very slowly, and I'm just so happy to be back in tour. That's the most important thing.

'I'm feeling OK. I haven't played a competitive match in a while, and I had a tough three-setter [on Tuesday], so I'll see how I feel.'

Bouchard struggled for consistency last year, dropping to her current ranking of No 49 from No 7 this time 12 months ago, but she remains calm at the start of a new season.

She said: 'I think there are ups and downs in tennis, just as there are in life, so I'm not too worried about this year because I know I can be a great player.

'My goal is to always try to reach that. I'm definitely not focused on my ranking. I'm just happy to be playing tennis and doing my job and doing what I love doing.

'If I work my hardest and try my best, things will fall into place.'
