Kevin De Bruyne's agent, Patrick De Koster, has revealed the Belgian star had an agreement with Bayern Munich before agreeing to sign for Manchester City.
Despite this revelation De Koster insists his client is now 'super happy' at the Etihad Stadium.
The 24-year-old joined Manuel Pellergini's team from German club Wolfsburg for £58m in the summer amid interest from a number of clubs, including the German champions.
16 goals and 27 assists in all competitions and a German Footballer of the Year of the year award last season meant City had to spend big to land their man.

De Koster has claimed it is solely the size of this transfer fee that prevented the winger from remaining in Germany.
Speaking to Sport/Foot magazine, he said:
'Kevin's heart was beating for the Bundesliga, where he broke through at Bremen and became a star at Wolfsburg.
'I'm convinced he would have played for Bayern if they had been able to pay the asking price.'
'We reached a personal agreement with Bayern after two meetings. The deal has collapsed on the asking price.'

The winger's impressive performances last term lead to interest from a number of clubs, including Bayern
'I think that Bayern wanted to pay 50 million euros, but not any euro more. In the end City won the race and Kevin is super happy with his move. He adapted fast on and off the pitch.'
The winger has already gone some way to justifying his hefty price tag having contributed 11 goals and 12 assists in 27 appearances for Manchester City this season.
The club remain in contention for all four trophies this season and will continue their challenge as they host Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.
