Larry Butler crashed out of the BDO World Professional Darts Championship - and managed to throw three treble ones in a single visit to the oche.

The American was thrashed 4-0 by Glen Durrant as the top seed made serene progress to the quarter-finals at Lakeside.

Butler struggled throughout and in the first leg of the fourth set, found the treble one three times with his fourth, fifth and sixth darts.

Durrant was in impressive form as the No 1 seed marched into the quarter-finals

It was the 58-year-old's first appearance in the competition for 24 years having lost in the first round in 1992.

There was late drama on Wednesday when James Hughes delayed the start of his match with Madars Razma to have the board straightened.

Hughes went on to win 4-1 and will now meet Dutchman Wesley Harms who beat Jim Williams 4-3.

Elsewhere, Dennis Harbour defeated Martin Phillips 4-1 to go through to the last eight where he will play Jeff Smith, the Canadian conqueror of three-time winner Martin Adams.

Smith beat Brian Dawson 4-1 on Wednesday.

The remaining quarter-finalists will be determined on Thursday, with Richard Veenstra playing Martin Atkins and Mark McGeeney facing Scott Mitchell. The winners will meet each other.
