Bastian Schweinsteiger, James Rodriguez and Mile Jedinak among 30 international captains who didn't have Lionel Messi in top three for Ballon d'Or
- Lionel Messi won his fifth Ballon d'Or with 41.33 per cent of the votes
- The Barcelona star beat Neymar and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo
- A total of 30 international captains didn't have Messi in their top three
- Diego Godin and Robert Lewandowski among those who left winner out
Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger and Colombia skipper James Rodriguez were among 30 players who decided against voting for Lionel Messi for the Ballon d'Or.
The Barcelona forward beat Cristiano Ronaldo and team-mate Neymar to the coveted award at a ceremony in Zurich on Monday after picking up an impressive 41.33 per cent of the votes.
But despite scoring 52 goals for club and country last year, Messi didn't do enough to make it into the top three selections of a host of internationals.

Players are required to vote for three of their peers, with their first choice awarded five points, their second choice three points and third choice a single point.
It was no surprise that Portugal talisman Ronaldo didn't opt for his rival, instead choosing club team-mates Karim Benzema, Rodriguez and Gareth Bale in that order.
Rodriguez also stuck with Los Blancos, picking Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale, while Liberia skipper Teah Dennis chose Real trio Ronaldo, Benzema and Toni Kroos.
Crystal Palace and Australia midfielder Mile Jedinak thought Ronaldo, Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski and Neymar had all been better than Messi, while New Zealand captain Chris Wood chose Poland star Lewandowski along with Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba and Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne.

Cameroon skipper Stephane Mbia picked Ivory Coast star Yaya Toure as his No 1, with Paris Saint-Germain's Zlatan Ibrahimovic second and Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer third.
Messi was also left out by Leicester and Austria defender Christian Fuchs, who went for Neuer, Chelsea forward Eden Hazard and Ronaldo as his top three players.
Peru captain Claudio Pizarro, who enjoyed two spells at Bayern Munich, remains loyal to the Bundesliga champions, having picked Neuer, Thomas Muller and former player Kroos.
And there was also a Bayern flavour to Bastian Schweinsteiger's votes, with his compatriots Muller and Neuer joining Neymar in his top three.

Messi himself stuck with those he knows best, choosing Barcelona team-mates Luis Suarez, Neymar and Andres Iniesta.
In fact, all four international captains within the Barca and Real Madrid sides chose to vote for club team-mates only, with Neymar opting for Messi, Suarez and midfielder Ivan Rakitic.
However, one player who definitely voted with his head rather than his heart was Guinea skipper Florentin Pogba.
The Saint-Etienne defender ignored brother Paul, who was named in the FIFPro World XI, and voted for Messi, Ronaldo and Neuer.
