Petr Cech spotted on rush-hour train after Arsenal goalkeeper given a few days off after busy festive period

Without his trademark helmet and huge gloves, footy fans may have done a double take when they spotted a famous footballer on the rush-hour commute earlier this week.

But Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech shunned the preferred mode of transport for a Premier League star of a fast sports car or flashy SUV to let the train take the strain.

Cech and his Arsenal team-mates had been given a few days off after a busy festive period and the 33-year-old took some time to enjoy some of the attractions in the capital.

He then hopped on a South West Trains service to his Surrey home. The Gunners are back in action against Sunderland in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

Cech cemented his place in Premier League history by claiming a record 170th clean sheet in his side's 2-0 defeat of Bournemouth.

The 33-year-old finally surpassed former England No 1 David James - who held the previous record before ending his career with Portsmouth in 2010 - earning the record in just 352 appearances for both Chelsea and Arsenal.

Another mesmeric performance from Mesut Ozil, which included an assist for Gabriel's opening goal and scoring the second himself, ensured the Gunners returned top of the table and enhance hopes of winning a first title since 2004.
