Loans, Bursaries and Scholarships

City & Guilds of London Art School is an independent not for profit charitable organisation and operates entirely without public funding. We are committed to offering the opportunity to study on our specialist courses based on merit and potential and have established a number of bursaries to support students with limited means.

The main sources of funding for your studies are:

STUDENT LOANS
PROFESSIONAL AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT LOANS
BURSARIES AND SCHOLARSHIPS

STUDENT LOANS
If you are a UK student on one of our BA (Hons) degree courses, and you don't already hold an undergraduate degree, you are eligible to apply for a loan from the Student Loan Company. These loans cover both tuition fees and maintenance. Please note that this will cover up to £6000 of your fees. Further information on all aspects of student funding is available at: www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance and www.sfengland.slc.co.uk

If you are not resident in England please try the following:
Northern Ireland: www.studentfinanceni.co.uk
Scotland: www.saas.gov.uk
Wales: www.studentfinancewales.co.uk;

If you are a student from another EU country and have been a resident in the UK for a minimum of three years you will also be entitled to a loan towards your tuition fees. However, you will not normally be eligible for student maintenance loans or maintenance grants, although there are exceptions to this rule. For further information please consult www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance-eu.

Please note that the availability of student loan funding is subject to annual approval in line with the conditions for course designation set by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills

PROFESSIONAL AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT LOANS
A Professional and Career Development Loan can help pay for learning that enhances job skills or career prospects. This is a bank loan which is paid back when a course has been completed, however, you do not pay interest for the period when you are in learning. A number of our full-time courses are registered with the Learning Skill Council for such loans. Please note that the loan usually covers a maximum of two years. To find out if you are eligible and how to go about applying please visit www.direct.gov.uk/PCDL or contact National Careers Service on 0800 100 900.

BURSARIES AND SCHOLARSHIPS
Each year, the Art School provides financial support to students through bursaries and scholarships. These are funded from a wide range of charitable sources. Bursaries are awarded on the basis of demonstrable need and ability, subject to restrictions that have been imposed by the donors of funds. In 2013/14, we were able to support over 60 students with a total of approximately £200,000. As a general rule, the maximum amount awarded could be up to 50% of the tuition fee for a year. Please note that bursary funding is not currently available for students on the Foundation Diploma course.

In addition to our own bursary support, we are also able to advise students on their own search for financial support from external sources (such as trusts and foundations and livery companies) which provide grants and scholarships to individual students.

The Art School also provides 2 Scholarships for outstanding applicants for its BA (Hons) Fine Art course and a Scholarship for an outstanding student from the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design based at the Art School to study on one of the Art School's undergraduate courses. For further information visit the course pages.

Should you wish to be considered for bursary support please e-mail admin@cityandguildsartschool.ac.uk to request an application form. The annual deadline for bursary funding applications from students finishing their 1st and 2nd years is 30 May for the academic year starting the following October (this also applies for students in the MA part-time course). Bursary applications for new incoming students should be made at the time of applying for your course. There will also be an opportunity for new students to apply by the end of their first term of study.

Bursaries and scholarships are renewed annually through a process of re-application.

If you have any specific queries regarding student support please contact the Admissions Office on admissions@cityandguildsartschool.ac.uk

The Art School also has a limited Hardship Fund available on application to students already enrolled on a course who are suffering financial hardship due to changes in circumstance or other issues that are effecting their ability to continue their studies.
