What is Plurk?

A really snazzy site that allows you to showcase the events that make up your life, and follow the events of the people that matter to you, in deliciously digestible short messages called plurks.

What is a social journal?

1) Add updates of what you did today 2) Your updates are displayed on your timeline and shared with all your friends 3) You can see what other friends are doing today 4) You can chat with other friends and reply to their updates

How does Plurk work?

It's easy. First, sign up. It takes 10 seconds. Then, just post new plurks which tell us what you're doing, or how you feel, or what you're thinking or anything else for that matter and it'll appear on your timeline. You can tell us on the site, through instant messaging (stuff like MSN or AIM) or by text messaging us an update. Be sure to invite all your friends and see what they are up to throughout the day, it will make Plurk that much more fun for you.

How can I find my friends here on Plurk?

There are several ways to do that. You can invite or find your friends on Plurk by using your email address or facebook account. You can also try to search for them using their name or email address.

What's my timeline?

Your timeline is your home screen and where you'll spend all of your time on Plurk. It allows you to easily view and scroll from left to right using your mouse or keyboard as plurks are created by you and your friends throughout the day. It gives you a clear view into what everybody is up to recently and lets you stay caught up on what your friends are doing.

What's a plurk?

A plurk is a small message or link, less than 140 characters, that you can broadcast to the whole world, your buddies or just yourself over the web, through instant messaging, and through text messaging on your mobile phone.

What are qualifiers?

Qualifiers are yummy color coded words which are commonly used by our members to start plurks. They make it easy for you to identify different types of plurks visually. So you can easily tell what someone <feels>, or <thinks>, or <loves> or <was> doing.

What's freestyle plurking?

Freestyle plurking is a way of plurking without qualifiers. We don't want to limit your creativity so you can plurk as you please if you choose not to use the color coded qualifiers. These are great for our older or more expressive users.

How to turn text into a link?

The secret formula is http://yourlink (text). For example, try to copy and paste the following text to your plurk box:
http://yahoo.com (yahoo)

What's the difference between friend and fan?

A fan is someone who follows your Plurk. A friend is someone who follows your plurk, and at the same time you also follow his/her plurk.

How to make a plurk private?

You can make a plurk private so that it's only viewable to a certain friends or cliques. Go to 'Private Plurk, Language & Option' under the Plurk box to do that.

How do I disable my Plurk account?

Go to 'My Account' and you will see a bright red button that says 'Disable Account' at the bottom.

Can I recover my deleted account?

If you relogin we'll renable your account.

Can I change my account name/url?

Unfortunately, nope. But you can always register a new account with a different email address.

How can I share images, Youtube videos and other media on Plurk?

When you plurk a web address that ends with .gif, .jpg or .png (for example: http://photobucket.com/image/cat/erinstevens34/cat.jpg), Plurk automatically generates a thumbnail image for you. The same happens when you plurk with Youtube's embed url, such as: http://youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0

How to embed Plurk widget into my blog?

Go to edit 'My Profile' and you will see a 'Widget' tab link.

What is a clique?

A clique is just that. It's a way for you to define a smaller audience amongst your friends who share something in common. Maybe 5 of your friends play on the same soccer team, or maybe 3 of your friends work at the same company or maybe 7 of your buddies go for beers and wings every Monday night. Cliques help you manage your audience so that you can send plurks to only the friends who need to be notified.

How do I add someone as a friend on Plurk?

Just click the little 'add to friends' button on the middle right of another users Plurk page. Your friend will receive an alert on their Plurk page and an email. When they confirm your request, you two are then friends.

Can I unfollow someone? Can I prevent someone from being my fan? Can I block someone?

Yes, you can do all that in 'My Friends'. Second link to your top left.

I saw a message saying my content have been marked as spam and my Karma was declining, why? How can I improve it?

Most likely it would be that our system has detected many of your plurk contained content or links that have been reported as spam by other plurk users.

If you haven't post these plurks, it could be either your plurk account has been stolen, or you've ever signed up for 3rd party services or web sites that requested your Plurk credentials and are using it to post bad content. That is not only violating our terms of service but also leaking out your own privacy and personal information and might potentially spammed your friends and fans.

To fix it, please follow these steps:
1. Change your password right away.
2. Unfollow unnecessary services or Plurk users, i.e. bots.
3. Check if your personal information has been modified. More specially, please check if spammers have replaced your email address.

How do I use Plurk from my mobile phone?

You can visit the mobile version of your plurk page by going to http://www.plurk.com/m.

What is Karma vacation mode? How do I enable Karma vacation mode?

Karma vacation mode provides you a way to freeze your Karma when you're going on a longer vacation or don't have time to Plurk.
To enable Karma vacation mode, simply go to My Account, within the Account tab, right at the bottom you will see the 'Karma vacation mode' option.
* Note that a certain amount of Karma will be deducted from your current Karma as a result to enable this mode.

Can I still use Plurk after I enable the Karma vacation mode?

Sure, no feature will be limited. Your can still post plurks, private plurks, receive notifications as usual from Plurk depending on your Privacy setting in My Account.
