Diff the Dragon – Part Thirty Eight

Diff-38

Diff the Dragon by Angela Lott, illustrations by Richard Bartrop. An Okal Rel Universe Legacy Novella featuring the young Alivda

Angela Lott is the middle child of Lynda’s three daughters. She did two years of Business schooling at the College of New Caledonia and is now working as a receptionist at her local FYiDoctors. In her spare time she enjoys writing, video blogging, reading and watching very nerdy TV shows.

Part 38

“Sometimes I am amazed that you put up with her for a whole year,” Perry told Vrenn who lay in bed next to her.

“She is a natural sword,” Vrenn said. “But she is also a natural loose cannon.”

Perry laughed.

“I wonder what she will do now.” Perry said.

“I don’t know,” Vrenn said. “But I have taught her enough to do the rest herself.”

“Yes, you have,” Perry said. “Good step-granddaddy.” She smiled, but he did not look impressed with his new nickname.

“So now,” Alivda was saying to Amel who had dropped by Barmi II to see Perry, “you have to get me a new teacher.”

“I so do not!” Amel said.

“Then you have to teach me,” Alivda said.

“Oh, so you want to learn sword dancing then.”

“No, sword fighting!”

“Then you don’t want me for a teacher,” Amel said, smiling.

“Arrggg!” Alivda cried in frustration.

“Wait a minute,” she said once she had calmed down, “Horth!”

“What about Horth?” Amel asked dubiously.

“He can teach me to fence!”

“No,” Amel said.

“Oh, why not!”

“No.”

“That is not an answer!!”

“Yeah, well, it’s the one you got,” Amel said.

The dragon, since she was no longer a baby, paced more fiercely around the room.

“How about I take you with me to court and ask Di Mon if Tatt will spar with you?” Amel suggested.

“Is he good?”

“He is about your age and Vrellish,” Amel said. “That is good enough for me.”
