Chase Field co-hosted Pool B in the first round of the 2006 World Baseball Classic. Nearly 100,000 fans attended the six games at Chase Field and Scottsdale Stadium in '06, which featured teams from Canada, Mexico, South Africa and the United States. Chase Field, which has a storied history as an event host, has in the past accommodated numerous concerts, international sporting events and the 2001 World Series. Most recently, it hosted the 2011 MLB All-Star Game.
A brand-new state-of-the-art facility which held its inaugural game only two years ago, Salt River Fields at Talking Stick will host two games in the first round of the 2013 World Baseball Classic. The 140-acre complex is the first LEED Gold-certified sports venue of its kind. In its brief history, Salt River Fields has already welcomed such critical acclaim as being voted "Ballpark of the Year" by Ballpark Digest and "Best Place to See a Spring Training Game" by Phoenix New Times. In addition, it set the all-time record for Spring Training attendance in 2011, and again in '12.
