Real-life “vampires” who consume small amounts of human or animal blood resist coming “out of the coffin” for fear that they will be labeled as “delusional, immature, unstable… perhaps wicked, and not competent to perform in typical social roles, such as parenting,” according to a new study in the latest issue of Critical Social Work, a peer-reviewed journal published by the University of Windsor.

Last week, Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) introduced a bill that would remove the words “husband” and “wife” from the language used in federal law – a move that had drawn ire from faith leaders and family advocacy groups that see this legislation as expected fallout from the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in June that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is promoting a guide for “educators, human services providers and allies” that “provides information for educators, human service providers and allies about supporting the health and well-being of children and youth who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex and/or two-spirit (LGBTQI2-S) and their families.”
