This identification is a guess based on external features, its internal features could well place it elsewhere in another dorid family.

22 February 2011: it’s definitely not Hypselodoris bertschi there are far too many differences. Leave it simply as Chromodoris sp.

An undescribed species. This is an aberrant individual with a strange lobe on the left side edge of its mantle.

This is an undescribed species of Chromodoris. Chromodoris tinctoria is reported to have the red spots on white and a yellow margin, and not to have all the other dorsal coloration around the red spots.

This is an extremely interesting individual. It seems to have some black pigment at the very base of the inside of the gill axes which relates it to the western Indian Ocean Chromodoris boucheti. But in true Chromodoris boucheti there are black lines running the full length of both axes. It is probably an undescribed species.

This is probably distinct from Chromodoris roboi

An undescribed species. This is an exceptional photo showing an individual feeding on a transparent white sponge with its buccal mass completely extended.

This species is very close to Chromodoris dianae

A juvenile individual. This individual represents the so-called ‘blue’ colour form of Chromodoris lochi. To me it seems even more close to Chromodoris boucheti than Chromodoris lochi. At present, however, Chromodoris boucheti is supposed to come only from the Indian Ocean.

This species is similar to, but different from Chromodoris dianae in that it has yellow or orange spots around the mantle margin.

Juvenile. This individual is too immature to display adult colours and patterns, so is unidentifiable.

The simple dorsal pattern of black lines is like that seen in Chromodoris lochi, but the sky blue colour (instead of white in Chromodoris lochi) and yellow-orange rhinophores and gills (instead of pale pink as in Chromodoris lochi) are consistently different. So I agree with Kuiter and Debelius (in their new book Nudibranchs of the World page 176) that this is an undescribed species.

Closest to Chromodoris lochi, but probably an undescribed species restricted to Asia.

If this photo had been in sharp focus, it would have revealed numerous glandular pores in the blue sections on the upper surface of the mantle, as in Chromodoris annae and Chromodoris westraliensis. But this species is consistently different from both Chromodoris annae and from Chromodoris magnifica, to suggest it is an undescribed species.
