Ferrari sign Esteban Gutierrez as test driver

Ferrari have signed Esteban Gutierrez to be their test and reserve driver from next season.

The Mexican, 23, has been at Sauber for two years and made his Grand Prix debut in Australia during 2013.

Ferrari's main drivers next season will be Sebastian Vettel, who has switched from Red Bull, and Kimi Raikkonen.

Team principal Maurizio Arrivabene said Gutierrez, "although young, has plenty of experience relating to the new generation of Formula 1 cars".

He added: "I am sure that, with his experience, he will make an important contribution to the development work of the team in the simulator."

Gutierrez did not register a point for Sauber last season.

"It is for me the beginning of a new path for my future and I'm going to do my utmost to contribute to the achievement of the targets set by the Scuderia," he said.
