Lorde sent that humiliated X Factor contestant the best present ever

Taking after her American beffie Taylor Swift, Lorde reached out to a member of the unwashed masses with some beautiful charity, making this guy feel so much better about what he's been through.

25 year old Joe Irvine probably had no idea he was stealing the look of X Factor NZ judge Willy Moon when he decided to wear a suit and gel his hair on the show this week. But fellow judge and Moon's wife, Natalia Kills, knew better. Kills sledged Irvine as soon as his performance had finished.

“Do you not have any value or respect for originality?” she asked Irvine, referring to him wearing a suit. Moon was also wearing a suit, albeit one which was an entirely different colour, cut, and style. Kills also called Irvine "dangerous" and "creepy". Moon jumped in, comparing Irvine to Psycho murderer Norman Bates and saying he wouldn't be surprised if Irvine cut off someone's face and wore it like a mask, or murdered the entire audience. Hey now.

Irvine stood there and took it, like all contestants are expected to, but it kicked up a media storm yesterday. As a result, Lorde, New Zealand's greatest export, sent Irvine a box of gifts: cupcakes which say "KEEP BEING JOE!" and a personal, heartfelt letter.

The note says:

“Hi Joe,

Just wanted to say: your individuality, positive energy & spirit are infectious! I think you’re doing an awesom [sic] job on the show so far. I’m a performer too, & I wanted to say that no matter how many people make fun of me for how I dress, move & act, I’m being me — and that’s what’s important.

Good luck & lots of love,

Lorde”

We're getting a little teary.

Joe seems to be keeping a good head about him, saying on Twitter that he doesn't want Natalia Kills to receive all the bullying she's currently enduring. "She's OK, she just did something dumb," he tweeted, with the hashtag #allhuman. What a lad.
