Tutorial: Creating A Facebook Page For Your Blog

FB BWS Final Do you have a Facebook page for blog? What? No! Really?

Then you are missing an opportunity to double your social media traffic!

How?

Read this: In a recent analysis of web traffic by Statcounter, it was revealed that Facebook accounts for nearly half of the traffic delivered by social media websites. Full report: Facebook Accounts for Half Social Traffic; StumbleUpon 2X Twitter.

Creating A Facebook Page

Go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

Since we are creating the page for a blog, select Brand, Product or Organization. From the drop-down menu that appears, select “Website”. Enter a name for the page and select “I am official representative….” option.

Click “Create Official Page”.

Congratulations, your blog now has it’s facebook page, tutorial finished!

Just kidding! ;)

Next, we have to upload a image. Blog’s logo will be best choice here. A screenshot of blog or your own image will also do fine.

What’s Facebook without its applications?

So, we are going to add some nice apps to the fresh page. Click “Edit Page” below the profile image. At the end of page, there is “More Applications”. Click browse link under it.

Here are apps that I recommend:

Networked Blogs

Here’s the official description of this add:

Bring your blog to Facebook, and Facebook to your blog. Supports multiple blogs, RSS and ATOM feeds, and fan/business pages. The best to import your feed. Get your blog networked with the largest blogger community on Facebook.

To add it, go to Application directory and browse to Networked Blogs, click on “Add To Page” and select page.

Next, we have to get a blog registered with Networked blogs. For this, go to app page and click “Register A Blog”. Enter the required information, click next. After this, you can add yourself as author and use appropriate method to verify yourself as author. If blog’s feed has not yet been pulled, click “Pull Now”.

Now, let’s go to our page! Oh my GOD, Networked blogs has not yet been added! :(

Here how to add it:

Click + icon after discussions and click “Blog” at the end.

Adding Networked Blogs

WOW! Networked Blogs is there, “Ishan, you are wonderful”! Thanks for telling that, I already knew! ;)

FBML

FBML stands for Facebook Markup Language. FBML app will allow us to add basic HTML to our recently created page’d sidebar.

To add it, go to FBML app page and click “Add to my Page” below profile image. Now, go to Edit Page screen again. Here, FBML should be present.

To edit it, click Edit. You will have to enter a box title and content. You can enter HTML for subscription box/form etc. Here’s how we have used FBML on official Facebook page for Blogging With Success:FBML On BWS Page

These are only two apps that I currently use and will recommend. However, you can always search Facebook App Directory for interesting apps.

Promoting A Page

Here’s how pages can be promoted:

When on the blog’s page, click share button(it’s last in left sidebar). This will allow to share it on wall. There’s also a “Suggest to Friends” link below profile image that will send page request to friends.

Facebook ads are another method to promote a page.

Lastly, there’s a like box that can be embedded in your blog’s sidebar. To get code, go to page edit screen. In right sidebar, click Promote With A Like Box in right sidebar. Options and can be customized and after that, all you have to do is to grab the code and paste it in a text widget(WordPress users).

That’s it.

The page is created, we are happy(I am, are you?) and it’s time to see the number of fans rise. Also, do not forget to share your page in comments.
