Great paper, pathetic app

This app just keeps getting worse and worse. It's so slow that I sometimes think I could have monks pen the entire paper faster than I coan download an issue. It is also very unstable, constantly taking me back to the tablet's main screen instead of downloading. It was bad enough when the biggest problems were no pinch or spread function and no downloading in the background, but now the latest "improvement" is really a joke. Navigation keeps getting harder and harder. It CONSTANTLY tells me that it can't use the cellular connection -- yes you idiots, you're such a data hog that I had to turn cellular off for this app. Shoving reminders in my face won't change your pathetic design problems. Also, the app used to download new issues when connected to WiFi, but not cellular. Now it only downloads new issues when you open the app. In what twisted world is that an improvement? The WSJ was out early with the iPad, but it got lazy and lost its lead. Great paper. It deserves a much better app.

Always loading, less info.

Why after so many updates of this app can there be no option to set when it updates? I imagine the content is always in flux, but when I have time to read a few articles in a row, I still do not have time to wait through several 1-minute updates. Furthermore, long ago (in app development time units) each article used to tell me how many total pages it was, so I could decide whether I had time to read it to completion. That feature was removed, but at least there was still a scroll bar so I could gauge the story length. Then THAT went away to make room for a small percentage more text on a page. This app is marginally better (so far) on my phone than trying to negotiate the WSJ via a browser window. In all seiousness, I revisit my plan to continue being a WSJ customer about weekly if they cannot get a a better app under their control, or refuse to let an outside company have the access to data to do a great job. This app reflects BADLY on the WSJ.

Fix the app

When I am offline, not all of the issue is available. It is not properly storing the content I loaded in the morning.
2) Then in a poor cell connection area it's even worse. Often times, none of the content (even text) displays because it says I need to connect to the internet. This, despite the fact that I ran the update/refresh on the version this morning. If I switch to airplane mode, then magically 1/2 the content becomes available.
3) Newsstand only works 1/2 the time, meaning it does not update itself in the morning while plugged in and on my home WIFI
4) Since the new update, I've been asked for my password several times and when entering it, the app tells me I don't have SSL on. This is when I'm on the AT&T network or a hotel network, but it works at home. Not a lot of good to me if I cant update it when traveling. It updated from similar sources just fine before the latest update.
