About Texas, Birth Record Index, 1926–1995
This database was acquired from the
Texas Department of State Health Services, and originally entitled Birth Records. The descriptive information here is adapted from the Texas Department of State Health Services website. More information about the database may be available there.
These records contain an index of births from Texas. Each entry includes the following information, when available: child's last name, child's first name, child's middle name, birth date, zip code, gender, mother's last name, mother's first name, mother's middle name, father's last name, father's first name, and father's middle name.
A birth record index can be one of the most helpful sources of information you can discover, even though these records are often hard to find and incomplete. An ancestor’s birth record from Texas will usually include the first name, surname, and date of birth (although some records have only the child’s surname and date of birth). More modern records from Texas are often more detailed and may include the following information: the child’s first and last name, gender, birth date and location, parents’ names and the attending doctor’s name.
