Jumping Flash! 2

Review

by Shawn Sackenheim

Jumping Flash! 2 is essentially a technical update of the 1995 original. While it may not feature astounding breakthroughs, the developers have added a handful of new graphic effects, wackier level design, and the same great fun as the original.

The graphic engine has been overhauled with a greater variety of textures and special effects. Not only have the character models been redesigned with more detail, but the animation is much smoother. Even the weapons have been given a facelift. The weapon effects are beautifully detailed with bright explosions. Additionally, the use of weather effects is a definite plus. Whether you're traversing through snow or rain, the effects will interfere with your viewpoint and muffle the music and sound effects.

Unfortunately, one of the main problems with Jumping Flash! is that there aren't enough levels. There are six diverse worlds with three levels apiece. The levels are usually quite large and feature outstanding design, lots to see and do, and an odd sense of humor and believability. One of the final stages has the player maneuvering around a floating conglomerate of teacups, light switches, trains, giant silverware, and more. While this is definitely unorthodox, it's always fun.

Perhaps the main downfall of Jumping Flash! 2 is the difficulty. While some games are extremely frustrating, this sequel is astonishingly easy. Though a few of the bosses look menacing, none of them will adequately challenge your gaming skills. This game can be finished within a matter of days...if that. Fortunately, the developers put in a second Main Game challenge once you finish the actual game.

While Jumping Flash! 2 may not have challenging gameplay or little in the way of innovation, it provides a thoroughly enjoyable gaming experience. Young and experienced gamers will be pleased with the interesting levels and solid gameplay design. If only it lasted longer...
