Pokémon evolves into a fighting type with Pokkén

We're not Tekken the Mick

Ever dreamed of a mash-up between Pokémon and brawler Tekken? No, neither have we, but The Pokémon Company in Japan, in association with Bandai Namco, have only gone and released footage of just that, an arcade-only game under the portmanteau of Pokkén.

The minute-long footage shows Lucario and Machamp facing off on the traditional 2D left-versus-right axis, pummelling each other in the middle of an idyllic village.

Eagle-eyed Pokéfans might have picked up on brief footage of an unnamed game last year, featuring Lucario and Blaziken battling in a city. Now we know what it is and, based on the three creatures we've seen included so far, it would appear that there will be a focus on physical fighting as opposed to the usual weird, wonderful, abstract moves of the series.

The game hasn't been confirmed for any platform except Japanese arcade machines. Is it something you would like to see come to these shores?
