DC Comics is publishing a Mortal Kombat X komic

Look, we get it. You're thinking about picking up Mortal Kombat X next year, but there's a problem. You missed the last Mortal Kombat, and you're worried that Mortal Kombat X's plot will leave you totally lost. But never fear, lapsed virtual pugilists, because DC Comics has announced that it will publish a prequel comic series.

The new series "will serve as a prequel to the game and will feature many favorite characters and the next generation of Kombatants," according to DC, and will be written by Shawn Kittelsen with illustrations by Dexter Soy and cover art courtesy of Ivan Reis.

The series is set to debut in January 2015, at which point we can finally learn why that Scorpion guy is so crabby.

Tetris Ultimate hits 3DS in November, cheaper via eShop

Tetris Ultimate makes a beeline for 3DS on November 11, Ubisoft has announced. The game will launch on Xbox One, PS4, Vita and PC in the winter, locking in a slight delay for consoles, which previously had a summer launch window.

On 3DS, Tetris Ultimate is cheaper as a digital purchase, $20 compared with $30 at retail. The digital price reduction makes sense on the surface, since that version doesn't have to factor in costs associated with a physical release, but it is a fairly unprecedented move. The Vita has boasted a few reduced-price digital games in the past, but largely, publishers offer one price for downloaded and physical games.

The 3DS version of Tetris Ultimate includes four single-player Challenge modes, as outlined by Ubisoft: "Master" has Tetriminos drop instantly and appear at the bottom, "Rotation Lock" makes the orientations of the Tetriminos random and frozen in one position, "Escalation" has players clear more lines as the game levels up, and "Invisible" makes the Tetriminos invisible as they drop to the bottom.

RuneScape getting Hearthstone treatment with new card game

RuneScape developer Jagex revealed a new complementary game to the studio's MMO today, Chronicle: RuneScape Legends. Set in RuneScape's primary world, Gielinor, the game is of the collectible card-battling variety and "focuses on quest building, allowing players to craft their own miniature RPGs against enemies." The game first debuted at Jagex's RuneFest event in London over the weekend, and the developer said it's been quietly working on Chronicle: RuneScape Legends "since the start of the year."

Jagex's announcement follows the recent success of Blizzard's Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, a card game based on the World of Warcraft universe. Hearthstone reached 20 million players as of September on PC, Mac and mobile platforms. Likewise, Chronicle: RuneScape Legends will launch in 2015 for PC and Mac as well as mobile and tablet devices.

The Evil Within review: Keep out

Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, PC
Misplaced expectations can destroy your enjoyment of a game before you ever pick up the controller. Thinking of The Evil Within as a horror game, then, would be a misstep, because while it's certainly awash in grotesque imagery, it places far more emphasis on combat and stealth than it does creating an atmosphere of dread.

Sadly, thinking of it as an action title won't really improve your chances of enjoying it, as the sloppy controls and hackneyed design ensure that it's a nonstop exercise in aggravating tedium, but at least your disappointment will be more accurate.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel review: You don't know Jack

Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is all about loot, murder, humor, loot, swarms of enemies and loot. It looks like a comic book, plays like a shooter, and feels like that one hilarious idea you and your buddies had at two in the morning after a night of riding around town and chugging energy drinks. Also, loot. In other words, it's more Borderlands.

The Pre-Sequel introduces a few new ideas into the franchise – including near-zero gravity, oxygen management and shiny character classes based on NPCs from the previous games. Players participate in the story of Handsome Jack, before he became the villain in Borderlands 2, back when he was just a funny dude with wild ideas about being a hero.

Still, while The Pre-Sequel boasts the loot of a full Borderlands game, it's missing a touch of depth and a dash of polish.

Alien: Isolation debuts 2nd in UK charts, doesn't scare off FIFA 15

Again and again, the UK charts prove that when all is said and done, FIFA FIFA and FIFA some more. This time around it was Alien: Isolation that failed to prevent FIFA 15 from notching a third week on top of the country's retail sales charts. Still, Creative Assembly's zeal for xenomorphs was enough to take its newly hatched space horror into second place.

Regular charters will remember FIFA 15 held off three major new releases last week in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Forza Horizon 2 and Super Smash Bros. 3DS. This week, EA's sportsball sim denied four new challengers. In addition to Alien: Isolation, PS4 racer Driveclub had to settle for fifth, as it didn't manage to overtake Forza in fourth. Like Mordor which placed third, the Xbox game dropped just a place in its second week. Meanwhile, basket case NBA 2K15 debuted seventh. As for the fourth challenger, PS4, Xbox One and PC remaster Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition fell short of the top ten in 12th place.

As for what kept it out, once again if you regularly keep up with our UK charts posts, you won't be at all surprised to see the two entries sat in ninth and tenth place - as ever, check out the full top ten and customary music video below the break.
