Dr. William Happer serves as Professor in the Department of Physics at Princeton University and a prominent technical consultant to industry and government. Dr. Happer served as Research Associate in Radiation Laboratory of Columbia University and held the positions of Instructor, Assistant Professor, and Professor in the Department of Physics.

Dr. Happer is a specialist in laser spectroscopy, optical pumping, radio frequency spectroscopy, and magnetic resonance. He served as a consultant to numerous firms and government agencies, including Singer-Kearfott, Litton Industries, Bendix, RCA, the Applied Physics Laboratory of the Johns Hopkins University, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Naval Air Development Center, the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and the Department of Energy.

He has published more than 100 scientific papers in The Physical Review, The Physical Review Letters, The Reviews of Modern Physics, and other scientific journals and encyclopedias. During his graduation, he had a National Science Foundation Fellowship, a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, and a Queen Fellowship. While at UNC, he held a Morehead Scholarship and a National Merit Scholarship. In 1964, he received a Doctorate degree in Physics from Princeton. In 1960, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of North Carolina (UNC).

Shaftesbury Luncheon talks are free and open to the public. An optional lunch is available for purchase at the event, or participants may brown bag a lunch if they choose.
