A note for skeptics

We would like to address those people who are skeptical about the efficacy of any CAM modality and would like to clear our role as a CAM wiki.

Skepticism is usually defined as "an attitude of doubt or a disposition to incredulity either in general or toward a particular object"

The attitude of inquiry is necessary for the scientific progress of any stream of knowledge. To have doubts about something is also normal and acceptable. Every one of us can be skeptical about certain things and we are not against skeptical enquiry in general. BUT very often skepticism leads to vandalism. Your disbelief in something (which can arise from a lack of knowledge) often leads to disrespect. To question the scientific plausibility of some CAM practice by those who have studied and practiced it is one thing, to nullify a CAM therapy or practice by reading a few articles online is entirely another.

The CAM community does not want to lock horns with the non-believers. Each CAM modality has lot of history and data behind it. Some of it may be unscientific but not everything. The conventional medicine has also benefited many times from the Alternative Medicine. Many modern day drugs and practices have been derived from the knowledge of herbs and other plants and methods that alternative medicine has.

We need a place to document our own knowledge base. This wiki intends to serve that purpose.

We request the non-believers in CAM to please respect our individuality and give us the space to document each alternative medicine system in detail and with peace.

If you want to discuss the scientific implausibility of some CAM practice, there are many many other places (discussion forums, mailing lists, wikis) on the Internet. You can share your point of view there.

Thank you for your patience and support.
