Cole to Roma and Negredo on the go?

The ESPN FC World Cup Encore panel discuss the possibility of Luis Suarez leaving Liverpool and who can replace him.

In the latest roundup of Transfer Talk, there's an update on you-know-who as well as Ashley Cole's future and Arsenal closing in on their first summer signing...

22.45 BST: And that's all from us tonight -- join ESPN FC again tomorrow for all the latest transfer news and rumours.

22.28 BST: Monaco have thanked Eric Abidal for his efforts after confirming that the former Barcelona man had agreed terms with Olympiakos, writing on their official website: "AS Monaco wishes to thank Eric Abidal for everything he has brought to the club.

"He was captain and a key player during the past season, and AS Monaco wants to wish every success to Eric for the rest of his career."

22.19 BST: Livorno striker Paulinho wants to play in the Premier League, his agent has told Primocanale. Andrea Bagnoli said the Brazilian forward "has expressed a desire to go to play in England, and we are evaluating some opportunities."

22.09 BST: Someone who definitely isn't moving anywhere for now: Swansea defender Kyle Bartley has signed a new three-year contract. Manager Garry Monk thinks good things lie ahead, saying: "He has all the ingredients to be a top player for me."

21.47 BST: A bit more on that Torino/Fabio Quagliarella story from earlier -- president Urbano Cairo was asked about the Juve striker and told Rai Radio 1 (in quotes translated by Football Italia): "He is a very good player -- but we have other options, too.

"Perhaps we are missing the icing on the cake, but we have three or four interesting alternatives. Our coach, Giampiero Ventura, knows how to develop our players."

21.16 BST: Leicester forward Paul Gallagher has rejoined Preston, where he spent much of last season on loan, on another loan deal. Preston manager Simon Grayson explained: "He made it very clear to us he wanted to come back and, after negotiations with Leicester, it is a done deal."

20.47 BST: Brighton's hopes of securing goalkeeper Jack Butland on loan from Stoke could be fading amid uncertainty over the future of the Potters' Asmir Begovic. They are unlikely to let Butland move until that is resolved, which could force the Seagulls to look elsewhere, the Argus reports.

20.39 BST: Norwich City manager Neil Adams wants to freshen up all areas of his squad, having already brought strikers Kyle Lafferty and Lewis Grabban to Carrow Road in the summer. He told the Pink Un: "We are looking defensively, we are looking in midfield. Probably the strongest area at present is in midfield with the players we have got if you look at the squad.

"We said all along the priority was looking at the front end of the pitch -- now, that is not to say we will not look to bring in a midfielder because you always have to be ready if a player leaves. It can happen quite quickly, as I have already learned with Robert Snodgrass [who moved to Hull last week]. I have to be prepared, and we will be ready to go."

20.15 BST: Torino have been linked with a move for Juventus striker Fabio Quagliarella, but president Urbano Cairo said: "We have three or four interesting alternatives."

19.50 BST: Netherlands international Stefan De Vrij does not have any agreement with Manchester United, his agent has insisted.

Some reports have suggested that the Feyenoord centre-back could be on his way to Old Trafford when Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal takes charge after the World Cup.

De Vrij has also been linked with a move to Serie A side Lazio, but agent Carl Thomas told Lazionews24.com: "We have no agreement with Manchester United, nor have we signed for them."

19.30 BST: And still more from Italy, where reports suggest that AC Milan striker Alessandro Matri is on the brink of joining Genoa, with Croatia defender Sime Vrsaljko possibly moving the other way.

19.05 BST: Greek club Olympiakos have announced the signing of Eric Abidal from Monaco, confirming the news with a Twitter picture. Skipper Abidal only signed a contract extension with Monaci this summer, but reports in France said he did not travel to a preseason training camp with his colleagues, instead flying to Greece to hold talks.

18.40 BST - DONE DEAL: And more from Italy, where under-21 goalkeeper Francesco Bardi is heading to Chievo from Inter Milan on loan for next season.

18.23 BST - DONE DEALS: Football Italia reports that Genoa have signed Aleandro Rosi from Parma in a straight swap for Daniel Tozser. Tozser spent the last six months on loan at Championship side Watford, while Rosi was also loaned out in January, going to Sassuolo.

18.14 BST: Borussia Monchengladbach's Luuk de Jong could be heading back to the Netherlands with Ajax, it appears:

18.05 BST: More on Luis Suarez for your delectation: the chorus of cooing in his direction from Barcelona is continuing, with defender Marc Bartra saying the "very complete" striker would be a welcome addition to the Camp Nou squad. Barcelona and Liverpol have been in what have been described as "very productive" talks, with a transfer thought to be very close.

17.55 BST: Newcastle could be ready to make a second swoop on Netherlands club Ajax, with defender Ricardo van Rhijn in their sights, according to the Newcastle Chronicle. Magpies manager Alan Pardew has already signed captain Siem de Jong.

17.45 BST: Schalke have signed Cameroon striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting from Mainz on a three-year deal. The former Hamburg player scored 20 goals in 74 Bundesliga appearances for Mainz and featured in all three of Cameroon's World Cup group games. Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt told his club's official website: "I'm delighted that he has decided to sign for us."

17.35 BST: A few links to some full stories regarding various transfers we've covered today. First up is Gary Medel claiming he is a wanted man in Italy. For a transfer, he's not in trouble with the law. Next is Michu's meeting with Garry Monk to sort out the unsettled striker's future.

Frank Lampard is imminently going to decide what exactly he is going to do with his future. And finally here is the full story on Sporting Lisbon confirming there have been no bids for star midfielder William Carvalho.

17.22 BST: DONE DEAL! Udinese have moved to bring in Colombian creative midfielder Alexis Zapata from Deportiva Envigado. The 19-year-old joins compatriots Javier Cuadrado and Luis Muriel from that club into Seie A.

17.11 BST: Antoine Griezmann is set for showdown talks with Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay when he returns from the World Cup. It is thought the French winger will ask to leave La Real but Aperribay is hopeful the much sought-after winger may be persuaded to stay.

We have already signed one, David Luiz. If we bringing in two or three players that would already be good. That is what we have planned for. There will be few arrivals and certainly few departures."

13.33 BST: Ambitious West Ham are looking to sign Ecuador starlet Enner Valencia in a £12 million deal according to the Daily Star,

13.21 BST: Last chance saloon for Liverpool as the Metro report the Reds are going to offer Alexis Sanchez a huge £150,000 per week deal to try and lure him from Arsenal or Juventus. Despite the massive offer, the Chilean is said to only want a move to Arsenal or Juve, leaving Liverpool rather red-faced.

09.40 BST: Everton could be tempted to part ways with wonderkid Ross Barkley if Manchester City throw in midfielder Jack Rodwell as part of the deal. At £25 million Barkley would be seen as 'one for the future' while Rodwell would see his faltering career given a kick start by a return to his boyhood club according to the Daily Mirror.

First, the obligatory Luis Suarez mention. All the latest on his proposed move to Barcelona can be found here.

Ashley Cole to... Roma?

Spare a thought for Ashley Cole, currently unemployed and not allowed to go to Brazil for a summer holiday with his chums from England. But wait -- what's this? A move to Roma, that's what.

The folks at the Daily Mail say a two-year deal is on the table for the left-back.

Cole's best years are behind him but he remains a perfectly capable left-back who will have a glut of options to choose from. Of those, it appears Roma are leading the hunt.

Negredo no-go, so Atleti go for Mandzukic

Time for a tale that could affect a whole raft of clubs across Europe. Atletico Madrid are desperate to sign Chelsea-bound Diego Costa's replacement and had been keen on Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo, but it appears that ship has sailed. Not to be deterred, La Liga's champions are on to their "Plan B" -- Mario Mandzukic. That's according to Marca, who label the deal "very close." That could come as a blow to Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger hasn't made a signing yet but is expected -- surely -- to sign a striker, and Bayern Munich's Mandzukic was said to be an option. But Atelti are in pole position to land the Croatia international, whose move could be made official within the next few days.

Wenger not made a signing? Maybe we spoke too soon

While their rivals have been busy splashing the cash this summer, Wenger has kept quiet -- until now. L'Equipe believe a signing is coming in the shape of Newcastle's Mathieu Debuchy for around 10 million Euros.

A smart move, in our view. Bacary Sagna has departed for Manchester City and Arsenal need a right-back with Premier League experience. A decent start to their business for the FA Cup winners -- now for that elusive striker...

Evra farewell?

Patrice Evra signed a new contract with Manchester United at the start of the summer, so we're going to treat La Gazzetta dello Sport's story regarding his exit with caution.

The report suggests Evra wants out of Old Trafford to join Juventus on a free, but having lost the experience of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic this summer, Louis van Gaal could probably do with keeping Evra around. You'd expect Luke Shaw to be first choice at United following his big-money move, but there's bound to be time for Evra next campaign. However, a move to Juve could actually make sense if Evra was used as a makeweight. Why, you ask? Read on...

Juve for Sanchez sparks domino effect

Bear with us on this one, it's rather juicy. Word from Spain is that Juventus are keen to sign Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez and such a move could be music to Manchester United fans' ears -- as well as wrecking the hopes of Arsenal and Liverpool.

Sanchez is said to be part of Barcelona's negotiation package for Suarez, but Arsene Wenger is eager to take the Chilean to north London. However, the pair could end up disappointed if Juventus, long term admirers of Sanchez, get their way.

The Old Lady want to sign the former Udinese man and Sport says they will be able to afford Sanchez if they sell Arturo Vidal.

ESPNFC recently told you that Vidal was open to a move to Old Trafford, but Juventus want the bidding to start at around 45 million euros.

So, selling Vidal to United could get them Sanchez, annoying Arsenal and Liverpool in the process. Got it?

Reina to remain at Liverpool

To be perfectly honest, Transfer Talk completely forgot Pepe Reina was still a Liverpool player. He is, though, and is returning to Brendan Rodgers' side this summer and could yet remain there. A permanent move to Napoli has been mooted but The Liverpool Echo say the Spaniard is ready to stay at Liverpool. But with Simon Mignolet the undisputed first choice, where does that leave Reina?

We've got some details on that one as well -- step this way.

Bits and Bobs

- In-demand James Rodriguez fancies a La Liga switch.

- Italy's dismal World Cup campaign scuppered Mario Balotelli's hopes of a return to the Premier League.

- Gus Poyet's son, the talented free agent Diego, is snubbing Chelsea for West Ham.

- Atletico Madrid player in "staying at the club" shock.
