What is Boko Haram?
Wed, 04/30/2014 - 22:07 — DemocracyChroniclesAs I understand, Boko Haram means "Western education is forbidden" - something I personally find amazing. The group's ultra violent reaction to modernity is uniquely extreme. The media ignores these stories but the numbers of victims in the kidnapping and in previous attacks by the group are devastating. What can cause such hate and readiness to use violence? The civil war was very violent and political power is uneasily shared between largely Christian/traditional south Nigeria (in charge for longtime) and the largely Muslim north (more neglected and poor).
