Best Ghost Photos Ever Taken

They say seeing is believing. And while in this day of digital image manipulation that might not be as true as it once was, these photographs are considered by many to be the real deal - photographic evidence of ghosts. Faking ghost photos through double exposure and in-the-lab trickery has been around as long as photography itself; and today, computer graphics programs can easily and convincingly create ghost images. But these photos are generally thought to be untouched, genuine portraits of the unexplained.

The World's Most Haunted Places

Waverly Hills Sanatorium
There are certain places where the restless spirits of the night linger. They manifest as eerie voices and strange perfumes; they move things about; they creep out of the shadows as apparitions. Sometimes they even attack. These are the places, through years of experiences and unnerving reputation, that are considered the most haunted places in the world.

Photos That AREN'T Paranormal

When examining photos for possible paranormal elements, we have to be very careful and skeptical. So many things can spoil the photographic image, which by its very nature is sensitive. Stray light, reflections, dust, hair, and insects can all cause photo anomalies. Just because you didn't see something in the viewfinder that later appears in your photo does not mean it's a ghost. For example...

Amazing Photos That Have You Seeing Things

They say seeing is believing. Well, that's not always the case when it comes to photos. And we're not talking about Photoshopped or otherwise manipulated photos. Here we're referring to images that fool your brain into seeing something that isn't really there. It's called pareidolia or matrixing -- optical illusions. Here are some remarkable examples of pareidolia. Don't be fooled, but you're allowed to marvel at these natural illusions.

Once a year we invite readers to put their creative and artistic hats on and create phony pictures that depict something paranormal -- ghosts, monsters, UFOs, etc. It's all in good fun, and I'm sure you'll enjoy these collections of preposterous, psuedo-paranormal pictures.

Investigation at Rolling Hills

Rolling Hills Investigation 8Photo: Stephen Wagner
On April 11, 2008, I traveled with the Central New York Ghost Hunters to Rolling Hills in East Bethany, New York, reputed to be one of the most haunted locations in the Northeast. Reported activity includes voices of unknown origin, footsteps, physical assaults such as pokes and hair tugs, unexplained cold spots, EVP and occasional apparitions. Here are some photos of that investigation.

Orbs by Chance – Or...?

Orb halo~ Miša Nepovim
NOT LONG AGO, I wrote an article on this website called Enough with the Orbs Already, in which I expressed my reservations about the relevance of orbs in photos. Some paranormal researchers believe they possibly represent spirit energy; others say they are merely dust or other airborne particles. Still other researchers contend that it depends on the circumstances. Readers weighed in with their own opinions on the controversy. Putting the debate aside for a moment (or perhaps I'm fueling it), let's look at some photos that show orbs, but in very interesting contexts. Can we chalk them up to just amazing coincidences? Or is there something paranormal going on? Take a look and decide for yourself....
