On March 11, 2011, Japan experienced tandem, unprecedented natural disasters: a magnitude 9 earthquake followed by a tsunami. The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant was irreparably damaged and declared a 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES). The nuclear industry is a learning industry, and improvement actions are being taken based on lessons learned from Fukushima.
