Vodafone Switches on 4G for Smartphones in 6 Cities & 31 Towns across Ireland

9th December 2013: Vodafone Ireland today switched on 4G services for smartphones in six cities and 31 towns* across the country. Vodafone customers in these areas can now experience faster speeds than ever before on their 4G ready handset, with 4G included in RED and RED Business price plans.

4G will deliver data speeds of up to 10 times faster than 3G. From today, customers can now watch videos while on the move without buffering, upload pictures to social media in an instant and get the most from their favourite applications – their mobile experience will be enhanced and improved. Businesses whose employees are already working out of the office, will experience faster speeds making their working lives simpler, with quicker access to services and applications.

Delivering 4G services is a key element of Vodafone’s nationwide network enhancement programme, which in tandem is bringing 3G data everywhere there are currently voice services. This programme has already positively impacted on customers and businesses across the country who can now access high-speed data on Ireland’s leading network.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Anne Sheehan, Vodafone Ireland’s Enterprise Director said, “This is great news for those customers who are really keen to experience 4G services as soon as possible. We believe that faster speeds will be a catalyst for innovation and provide a platform for businesses to create new services and applications on mobile that will benefit everyone.”

Customers on 4G ready price plans with 4G ready handsets3 in switched-on areas can get access by simply texting 4G to 50221.

New areas will be switched-on in coming months so to view coverage maps and all 4G information, customers can visit Vodafone’s dedicated network site.
