Welcome to Foreword’s Book of the Year Awards. If you published a book this year, one that expands a reader’s world, then it should be submitted for our book awards program. Here are the entry details:

Eligibility

Any independently published titles in any format—including eBooks—published in 2014. This includes self-published, university press, and POD books. Note: professional production is taken into consideration when judged.

New editions of previously issued books are eligible with newly issued ISBNs. Reissued editions are not. Spanish language submissions are accepted. More than one book and/or one book in more than one category may be submitted with a separate entry form and an additional fee for each entry.

Books that are postmarked after the deadline will not be eligible. Late submissions will not be returned to sender, nor credited for the cost of entering.

Please note: Books published by Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Penguin, Random House, or Simon & Schuster and their imprints are not eligible to apply.

Judges

Foreword’s Book of the Year Awards were established to bring increased attention from librarians and booksellers to the literary achievements of independent publishers and their authors. Our awards process is unique because we ask a jury of our readers, librarians and booksellers, to select their top categories as well as choose the winning titles.

Their decisions take into consideration editorial excellence, professional production, originality of the narrative, author credentials relative to the book, and the value the title adds to its genre.

Deadline

Entries must be postmarked no later than January 15, 2015, for 2014 titles. All books must be accompanied by an entry form and fee of 99 or an online order receipt. Two books for each entry are to be sent to:

Foreword reserves the right to withhold an award in any category should submissions not meet our criteria of editorial excellence and professional production standards. Foreword is not responsible for the loss, damage, or return of any books submitted to the competition.
