Orchid odyssey
It's possible to bring the outdoors in - even in midwinter. Interior designers and decorators are demonstrating that during Orchid Mania, the annual orchid celebration going on until Sunday at the Cleveland Botanical Garden. The designers have created room vignettes that spotlight the exotic-looking flowers.

Sweet scents of Provence
If you can't go to France, you can bring France to your home. Terre d'Oc uses perfumes from Grasse and essential oils from Provence to create natural home frangrances.

Green from wall to wall
Sometimes it's not what's on the walls but what's in them that makes a home stand out. That was the case at the unveiling of the New American Home 2014 outside Las Vegas, an annual demonstration of the latest in residential design and construction.

Springtime cheer
Cold weather getting you down? Bring spring forward with some floral tableware from Heather and March.

Gone to the dogs
One way developers are attracting dog- owning residents in the United States is by rolling out Fido-friendly amenities, including indoor potty spots with "canine turf," spa-style dog washes with easy- access walk-up ramps, grooming stations, heated runs and pet-minded concierge services. Other buildings are contemplating activities such as doggy yoga and Olympics.

Gifts for the eco-warrior
Stumped for last-minute Valentine's gift ideas? Eco-chic furniture boutique Tree has lots of options.

A touch of glass
The midday light pours through the wall of windows. Sunbursts explode into a rainbow palette. Eve Tilley Chavez smiles at the vivid colors created by her hundreds of pieces of colored glass on shelves in the windows. There are vases and glasses, plates and bowls.

Heart warmers
Valentine's Day this year is extra special because it coincides with the Chinese Valentine's Day - the last time this happened was 19 years ago.

Pick a palette
I'm always fascinated by the roots of color trends. When red and black were popular in clothing some years ago, a color marketing pro told me it was because the Chicago Bulls were so hot at the time. That's right. Michael Jordan was the reason you just had to have that red leather jacket back in the '90s.

Gateway to green living
At Gateway Apartments, they just can't get enough of the sun. The management of the Harbour City serviced apartments recently added 188 square meters of tube solar collectors to go with the existing 200 sq m of panel solar collectors, which were installed in 2009.

Storing up memories
There's a reason the words "tacky" and "souvenirs" are often used together. All too often, we haul things back from vacations with the best of intentions but then display them with the least of thought. The effect is dowdy rather than decorative. But with a little creativity and maybe a little forethought, you can turn souvenir displays into treasured mementos of your travels. Here are some ideas.
