Ex-CES Followers Web Site

Welcome to the home page of the Ex-CES Followers Web site!

God bless you! We hope to make this Web site a home for all out there who are former followers of Christian Educational Services (CES). With that intent, we'll be adding a number of features in the coming months, which means that this site is currently (and will remain) under construction for a while. (If you look at the links down the left side of this page, you'll get an idea of what some of those coming features will be.) The purpose of this site is primarily to give ex-CES followers a place to come to make contact with others who, like themselves (and us), have left CES as an organization to set out on their own quest for the truth of God's Word, without the theological blinders of CES doctrine acting as a filter for what is truth and what isn't. To that end, we've started a series of forums on the Ex-CES Followers message board (accessible through the Forums link to the left). We also hope to present to you some of the truths from God's Word that we've been learning the past few years--scriptural truths that CES doesn't (and won't) teach.

But why an Ex-CES Web site in the first place?

Because the Word tells us not to shun the fellowship of the saints. Sometimes, however, after you leave a particular organization holding particular beliefs (some true, others perhaps not), you often find it difficult to fit in somewhere else. You fear, perhaps, that someone may brand you a heretic--or worse--if you tell them what you truly believe God's Word teaches (as opposed to man's theology). That can make fellowshipping with others difficult. But we all do need such fellowship with others of the Body of Christ, whether we're willing to admit it or not. After we left CES (because we could no longer accept some of the nonscriptural doctrines and practices they'd adopted and still follow what we believe to be the truths of God's Word; click the "About Us" link to the left for details), we had a hard time finding a group of Christians with whom we felt comfortable--or whose own doctrines we could accept even in part, if not in full. We're sure that many others have found the same to be true (although some of you may have found a welcome home with certain ministries or churches--and praise the Lord for that, if so!). Some time ago, we discovered the Dialogue Message Board on CES's Web site and were pleasantly surprised to find it an open forum in which people were allowed to post messages regardless of whether they believed CES doctrine on certain topics or not. It appeared to be a refreshing change from the CES we'd left and, for a moment, we found a new fellowship, even if only in cyberspace. Sadly, that didn't last. CES took down its message board and has posted its intent in the future to host only a "moderated" (read censored) board. The openness was gone--and so was the fellowship. Then the Lord put it on our heart to start up a new board--and accompanying Web site--to take the place of what we lost in CES's former board. And that's why this Web site (and its forums). And that's why we call it the Ex-CES Followers Web site. It's not our Web site, per se. It's for all former (and even current but not totally devoted) followers of CES.

So just what's wrong with CES anyway?

We wish that we could say "nothing" but we can't. No man or ministry is perfect, that's for certain. If we required perfect fellowship, our only fellowship would be with the Lord, not with other Christians. Yet, we are responsible to God and not to other men to follow His Word to the best of our admitedly imperfect abilities and understanding. When any ministry begins to stray too far from what we believe God tells us in His Word, we cannot continue to follow that ministry or its leaders and still be faithful to our Lord and to his people. CES started out with, what we believe, were very good intentions--as a new ministry to help heal the hearts of many believers who were hurt by The Way International (from which CES is a splinter organization). As such, CES rejected many of the Way's unscriptural doctrines and practices, much to its credit. Sadly, it kept others that are equally unscriptural (dispensationalism and its resultant division of scripture, for one, as well as its unscriptural dichotomy between the Church and Israel.) CES has strayed even farther in many areas since then--primarily in its doctrine that God can't foresee the future (derived from what's variously known as process or open theology); its unscriptural practices of "personal prophecy" (borrowed from charismatic extremist and dominionist ministries such as Christian International); and its promotion of the so-called "Christian" experiential training Momentus (in truth derived not from scripture as its proponents claim but from the unscriptural, New Age human-potential training Lifespring, coated with a thin veneer of Christianity designed to deceive). Momentus especially has caused mental, emotional, and spiritual damage to countless trusting Christians who took it (many on the Word of the leaders of CES).

Those are some of the reasons that we left CES and why we're now Ex-CES followers. And that's also why we feel the need for such a Web site.

A Quick Disclaimer: Lest you get the wrong idea (as some have), perhaps we should state most emphatically that we do not hate CES or its leaders. On the contrary, we love them as brothers (and sisters) in Christ. If we didn't, we'd simply keep silent and let them continue on their current path to what we believe will eventually lead to destruction for them and their followers--if not in this life, at the Bema. The Word tells us to love even our enemies--even if they've not walked in love toward us. But the Word also tells us to speak out when we see false doctrine and ungodly practices among fellow believers. We're all called as Watchmen on the wall, and as such, should we keep silent and others are hurt as a result of our failing to speak out, their blood (real or symbolic) is on us. Others may never see where they err from the truth of the Word if we simply let them continue unchallenged in their ignorance or fleshly rebellion. So we speak out here because we love the leaders and followers of CES and want to see them prosper and please God, as we're sure they want to do. We pray, therefore, that the leaders of CES will turn from some of the unscriptural practices and doctrines that they've adopted, not only for the good of their followers, but for their good as well. But if they refuse to do so, at least we've done our brotherly duty to them and to God.

So where do we go from here?

You're looking at it. The Ex-CES Followers Web site. If you, too, are a former CES follower, this is your site as much as it is ours. (Even if you're still a follower of CES but aren't blind to its faults and would like to see it change to embrace more scriptural doctrines and practices, you're welcome here, too. Heck, even if you are totally devoted to it, we still welcome you here to dialogue with us in our forums and to find out what we've been learning since leaving CES. Maybe you'll recognize it as something you've been missing in CES's teachings.) We want to keep this a positive experience wherever possible. (Although we can't guarentee you'll agree with everything that you find here or that some of it's not going to offend your current belief systems in some way, especially if you're still close in beliefs to much of what CES teaches.) But we want to try to remain responsive to you as much as possible in such a forum. If you have any suggestions on how we can better serve you (positive ones, we mean--not of the "take a flying leap into the lake of fire" variety), please contact us by e-mail at the following address. (Please try to avoid flames or spam attacks, as we'll be forced to report those to the proper authorities.) If you have articles you'd like to see posted that are too long for the forums, contact us with information about those, too. We may be interested in posting them. (Or if you already have a Web site where they're posted, in posting a link to them here.)

May this site prove in the final analysis to be a glory to him who gave himself for us and to Him who gave us life in the first place. God bless each and everyone of you--and may you keep seeking the truth of God's Word wherever you go and in whatever you do.
